  1. It's weird how on the original cover, Reed isn't stretching.

Also, how do you do the worn cover look? Or is a trade secret?

Bonus question: What does the "IND" that you see on the old Marvel covers mean?

  2. I thought it was weird that he wouldn't stretch, so I put it on my cover. The worn cover is made from a black sheet that I scratched up and scanned in, then made to screen in photoshop. Don't know what the IND means though.

  3. IND. : It's from when they where distributed by Independent News, which was actually owned by DC Comics.

Nice cover! I love your classic comic color gradients!

  4. One of my all-time favorite covers. I read this story in 3rd grade and was blown away. I loved how the Torch shaved Namor with his flaming finger.
I do love that Torch has time for flaming loop-de-loops while his sis is in dire straits.
Great job on the cover, Bill.

p.s.- Ditto Josh's comment about the stretching.

  5. He was just about to stretch. Give him a break.

  6. I don't really see the point of this, it's so close to the original.

  7. Really sharp cover.

A lot of very subtle improvements on the original: mr. fantastic's stretching arm, human torch's loop, thing's running motion and invisible woman's uncovered expression.

The worn cover look is a great touch, too.
