    - Iron Fist was a blond-haired Caucasian.

If anything, PM & IF was a combination of two low-selling "fad" titles that had reached their natural cancellation points on their own. It lasted a further 75 issues and it was curiously brilliant in some understated, off-kilter way.

Love Cockrum's original cover, love Maurice's interpretation which looks like a dream animated series. Great stuff.

  8. re kk Iron fist.

Y'know in a way that makes it even funnier/worse.

Didn't Marvel have a real complete Kung fu(tv)bruce lee rip off as well...same peroid or earlier??

But they must have thought Wooaahh Now really Who is going to buy that when considering the combinations, add a lead female character (Luke Cages mum?) and it would have gone into negative equity.

So I stand corrected sir/Madam but unapologetic.

Plus your right, those old mainstream books that not many people were buying, do, in their final year or so have the weirdest most ridiculous plots and devices.

ever scene the 2001(film) comics by Jack Kirby. they are fuckin nuts!

  9. David,

The comic you're thinking of is "Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu" which was a copyright mash of Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu and the Kung Fu TV series. If memory serves, Marvel chose not to actually use any of the TV show's characters although they held the license at that point, so it's a bit of a weird one to say the least.

If you get the chance, see if you can track down the unpublished Marvel adaptation of The Prisoner TV series (Patrick McGoohan). Written and drawn by Jack Kirby, truly a bizarre combination of pop culture iconography.
