I think I'm going to have to disagree... I really like the drawing a whole lot, but I think that the paper texture over top of everything kind of ruins it for me.
What I like best (and what struck me the most) about Brad's version is Snoopy's stance. In the original, it looks like Snoopy's trying to be regal. In Brad's he's a lot more expressive and the way his head is drawn, it looks like he has a sly smile on his face.
Thanks everyone for their feedback and kind words. Recently, I did an alternate version of this Peanuts cover. You can find it at my blog: http://bybradcampbell.blogspot.com/2010/08/schulzs-blue-period.html
Colours are great as well as the paper fx.

ReplyDeleteI also like the drawing. Like the colours. But don't like the paper effect.
ReplyDeleteI love this one. The colors are great. I like the paper effect, I like the whole thing.
ReplyDeleteJust who was the master? Charlie Brown or Snoopy?
ReplyDeletewell Snoopys got the undulating curves going and the neutral detached aesthetics of thee object is art, to then paint it would be mere illustration.

Beautiful. I especially like how the easel and box were handled. Charlie's expression is pretty great too... I want to see how his painting turns out!

ReplyDeleteI like the vintage feel of Brad's version!
