Original cover attributed to Alex Kotzky; Quality Comics 1953. Michael DeForge's website is here and you can purchase a screen print of his cover here.
I don't know if you've seen Michael's comic, Lose, but that is worth picking up. I think he has a second issue coming out soon. He's fighting the good fight by producing an indie floppy comic and should be supported. I miss picking those up.
If memory serves, the yellow ink on the print is much more intense than what could be captured in the scan. At 20 bucks it's a steal.
I'm doubly-impressed with this set, because the Kotzky original is fantastic in its own right, but DeForge's interpretation is just so distinct and fascinating. I'm glad the purpose of this website is not to decide which version is "better."
I have been a huge fan since I bought Lose #1 at APE last year...and as soon as I scrolled down and saw the image I knew who did it...great job!!! (Also, I wholeheartedly agree about supporting "floppy" comics. right on!!)
Certainly the coolest thing I'll get to see today!

Rob's right. I really dig this cover and look forward to checking out LOSE.
ReplyDeleteI like that you used Plas's costume colors for the cover.
